Wordpress is in the Press – but Security isn’t

I just read today the latest issue of Pc Praxis, a German computer magazine. They started a series of articles about Wordpress. The current issue covers how to install Wordpress. Future releases are planned and will discuss tips, plugins with the last article discussing money and blogging.

It’s great to see Wordpress getting more attention within the German speaking area, as its a really nice piece of open source software. So much is being done to grow the product, including plugin competitions, however, its concerning to see no mention of security what so ever!

BlogSecurity was established for this reason, and we really feel like we are starting to make a dent. Unfortunately, in this magazine they only hint of security was to change the default admin username, which doesn’t really matter right now, with pagvac’s recent article, "WordPress Username Enumeration".

We contacted the magazine, hopefully something will come of it.

Phil, its so true.

Being in security day in and day out I can tell you its a constant battle between functionality and security.

BlogSecurity is still very young, but I think we are really starting to get the ball rolling! Great stuff Phil, keep it up.
